Afraid of Clowns? You're Not Alone

Let's face it, clowns are scary. Even when they're not meant to be...they still are.

So if you're terrified of them like the rest of us, know that you're in good company.

There's a name for it: Coulrophobia

There have been question and answer sessions to try to answer why clowns are so scary.

Many believe that people fear clowns so much because of this guy:

Pennywise.
This horrifying clown is from Stephen King's IT. Even though the movie was super long and in the end doesn't even have the clown in it anymore, it is still one of the most prevalent clown horror movies to this day.

There are many movies made that involve killing clowns. Some are really really horrible and bordering on soft core pornography:

Take my word. I've tried to find awesome clown horror. Here's what I came up with:

Mr. Jingles. Two words: Pure. Garbage. This movie, like many of the others I'm going to name, looks like it was filmed on a home video camera. I got this gem for $.96 on Amazon.com. I wish I had my $.96 back. The cover was so deceiving too:

I had such high hopes. Clown revenge, sounds awesome right? Wrong. I should've listened to IMDB's 1.7 out of 10 rating. But I didn't. I can't even begin to tell you how horrible it is. Take my word.

S.I.C.K. That stands for "Serial Insane Clown Killer". Right. I know what you're thinking already, and you're absolutely right. Once again, the cover fooled me with an awesome clown graphic, and I was out $1.27 for this piece of trash. The movie is basically like one of those work videos you have to watch about reporting sexual harrassment at your job, only with alot of uncomfortable sex scenes, and barely any killing. There's a "twist" ending, but by that point you're so miserable watching this movie, you may have already turned it off, or fallen asleep. And I can't blame you.

Dead Clowns. Clown zombies?!

Finally! After watching the other two movies, this one looked Oscar worthy to me and Jim. It was kind of a mix between The Fog, and a really bad Italian zombie movie. I thought it was going to be absolute perfection. Watching it the second time, though, made me realize I was wrong, dead wrong. I do have to say though, that the zombie clowns look pretty awesome. It's a shame the rest couldn't come up to calibur with them.

Camp Blood Trilogy. I can't even comment on this, because, I haven't seen it yet. It is about a guy dressed as a clown killing people...but the film quality doesn't look good at all. I don't have my hopes up. I also don't know how to feel about this movie ripping off the name/premise of Friday the 13th.

Killjoy. Again, another one I haven't gotten to yet. The cover may be deceiving. What do you think about it?

Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

This movie is the equivalent to a 5 star hotel. I think it's one of my favorite movies of all time. From the costumes, to the makeup, to the entire storyline, this movie is sheer perfection. The tagline is even "In space, noone can eat ice cream!" (from Alien: "In space noone can hear you scream"). Genius. And those cotton candy coccoons? Forget it.

Other than movies, there's so much more to look at about clowns. Remember John Wayne Gacy?

That's a real life scary clown. He went by the name "Pogo the Clown". yikes. I also realize that not everyone is a fan of their creepiness. Here's a website dedicated to hatred of clowns.
This website allows you to vote on what clowns are and aren't scary (kind of like hot or not.com).

I vote "yes" to that all the time. Clowns are always scary.

(I had to...I love him).
