Get it? Like "April Fools"? No? Ok then...
So it's April already! In 6 months, it will be October. That's so exciting. I can't believe Monster Bash 2008 was already 6 months ago. That's insane. Time flies when you're thinking of frightening things.
I decided to look at the Upcoming Horror Movies to see if they had anything to spOoOOooOoOkify my Spring...well, there's nothing in theaters...
But there are a whole heap of movies coming to DVD! Here's the list from the website:
APRIL
Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (DVD)
APRIL 7
Donkey Punch (DVD)
House (DVD)
Shuttle (DVD)
Vinyan (DVD)
APRIL 14
Splinter (DVD)
APRIL 21
The Burrowers (DVD)
Laid to Rest (DVD)
APRIL 26
100 Feet (TV)
APRIL 28
Martyrs (DVD)
The Uninvited (DVD)
So, what are Monster Bash Blog's thoughts? Well...
Cabin Fever is one of those movies that I maybe have seen about 25 times, thanks to the Sci-Fi channel. It is also something that I wouldn't say I "like", but if it were on Sci-Fi and I had nothing else to do, I'd probably watch it...every time. Cabin Fever 2? I'd give it a shot..wait...I just read the plot and completely changed my mind:
A high school prom faces a deadly threat: a flesh-eating virus that spreads via a popular brand of bottled water (IMDB.COM).
You've gotta be kidding me. No wonder they won't put this in theaters. You can't have CABIN fever at a high school prom. Are you people out of your minds?!
Donkey Punch is being released to DVD. I'm shocked. I thought they'd just throw that in the trash. I still have no interest in seeing this movie, and I am still uncomfortable even putting it in my blog. I think I'm going to get flagged. I'm not even linking to it. So there. Instead, I'm giving you a real donkey punch:
Take that.
House is basically a "Christian Horror Movie" (I've never heard of that in my life) that was released to a limited amount of theaters back in November of 2008. Starring Michael Madsen, the movie is basically about facing one's darkest fears and making the "right" decisions and good vs. evil and all of that. It's actually based on a book, and Wikipedia has some additional info as well. I don't think I want to see it, even though I love Michael Madsen. I am not completely opposed to it though, and if it were on, or readily available, I'd probably give it a shot.
Shuttle is about these two girls coming home from a vacation and boarding an airport shuttle that turns into a deadly horrifying ride. This one actually sounds pretty promising, and I'm interested in it. I've never heard of it, actually, until now, but it looks pretty decent. IMDB gave it a 6.4 out of 10, so not bad.
Vinyan is a movie about a family trying to find their son after a tsunami. This kind of sounds like a movie along the lines of The Ruins, but with far more realistic things happening. I don't think I want to see it though.
Splinter isn't about the rat from TMNT like I originally thought...
It's a movie that sounds like the usual-a group of people are trapped somewhere (in this case a truck stop) and they are faced with a problem (a parasite that travels from person to person and causes them to go crazy and kill people) and they have to solve the problem. Next. It kind of sounds like a 28 Days Later type of flick, except far more contained.
The Burrowers is a horror-meets-western type of movie. It's about a search party in the "Wild West" that are falling victim to underground dwelling creatures that come up to attack. Eh. I'm not really big into Westerns. Didn't they make a movie like this already? Tremors or something?
Laid to Rest is about a girl who wakes up in a casket, disoriented, and has to outsmart a "technologically inclined" serial killer before the night ends, according to UHM. This one actually sounds pretty good. I'm interested.
100 Feet looks like it's going to be released only on the Sci-Fi channel. It's about a woman who kills her abusive husband in self-defense, is put on house arrest, and is haunted in the house by the ghost of her dead, abusive, enraged husband. This sounds like a ghostly Lifetime movie, and therefore, by my female nature, I'd see it. It may be pretty corny though.
Martyrs sounds like it's about two girls who are rescued from a slaughterhouse and form a bond. One of the girls seeks revenge on those who tortured her, and it goes from there. This is a French film that apparently won alot of accolaides from the London Frightfest film festival there. It sounds to me like a film similar to that of Hostel and Saw and things like that.
And Finally, The Uninvited, which was released in January to theaters, is already out on DVD. That seemed really fast. I already discussed it a bit here...in case you were interested and forgot that I'm already on top of my game here at MB Blog.
Anyways, let's break out some spOoOoOoOoOky theater popcorn, hop into our skull-and-crossbone pj's, turn off the lights, and watch some dvd horror!

Some of these look exceedingly and unmatchably bad, dear.
Why don't you blog about this year's theme for Monster Bash...its not too early.
tell us what you're gonna be for Halloween this year...
Jim and Anonymous, I won't give any details away yet for Monster Bash 2009 or my costume choices...mainly because I don't know what I'm going to be yet! Got any ideas?
Hi Kim. "Martyrs" looks cool. I like the French.
Hey Julie!
You know, that is so funny, when I was reading the info for it, I actually thought of you because I know you love French! Come to boxing/total body tomorrow with me please...it'll be spoOoOoOoktacular!
Aw, I was hoping on an entry about the 1986 horror film April Fool's Day, which I've been curious about for at least a decade. Have you seen it?
OoOoOo! I haven't seen that movie! I actually was going to say I didn't even know it existed, but I checked on IMDB.Com and totally remember that cover with the woman with the hair in the noose shape!
You're right, I definitely should've done that! Hm...I'll have to check it out and I think I could still blog about it...I mean...it is April for another 28 days...
Thank you for the suggestion!
